About The Gold Rate Today
An independent, ad-light source for daily gold and silver rates in India and worldwide — with transparent methodology and free tools for buyers and jewellers.
What We Do
The Gold Rate Today publishes the daily price of gold and silver for India and a growing list of countries, in each local currency. Our goal is simple: give ordinary buyers, savers and jewellers a fast, honest, clutter-free reference for what gold actually costs today — 24K, 22K, 18K and more, per gram, per pavan, per tola and per ounce — alongside free calculators that most rate sites hide behind ads. We are an independent information service, not a jeweller, bullion dealer or broker, and we do not sell gold.
How We Calculate the Gold Rate
Our rates are built from live market data every day. We take the international spot price of gold and silver (quoted in US dollars per troy ounce) and convert it to the local currency using the live US-dollar exchange rate. That gives a pure-metal per-gram value, which we then adjust for the import duty, applicable tax (3% GST in India, VAT elsewhere) and a typical retail margin to arrive at an indicative retail rate close to what you would be quoted in a shop. Different purities are derived from the 24K figure: 22K is 91.6% of it, 21K is 87.5%, 18K is 75%. City-level figures apply small local adjustments for transport and dealer margins.
Because the global spot price and exchange rates move continuously, our figures are indicative benchmarks, refreshed daily — not the exact tag price at any single jeweller, which also depends on making charges and the shop's own margin. Always confirm the final price and hallmark (HUID) with a certified jeweller before you buy.
Our Data Sources
Gold and silver spot prices are sourced from live bullion market data feeds, and currency conversion uses live foreign-exchange rates published by recognised exchange-rate providers. Purity standards follow the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmarking scheme, and tax rates reflect the applicable GST/VAT in each market. Where we cite festival dates or scheme rules (such as Sovereign Gold Bonds), we point readers to the relevant official source.
Editorial Standards & Corrections
We aim to keep every figure current and every explanation accurate and plain-spoken. We do not publish paid placements as editorial content, and our guides are written to inform rather than to push any product. Nothing on this site is personalised investment advice — we are not licensed financial advisers, and gold and silver prices can fall as well as rise. If you spot an error in a rate, calculation or fact, we want to fix it quickly: please contact us using the details below and we will review and correct it.
