How to Calculate the Price of Gold
The final price of a gold ornament in India is not just the gold rate multiplied by weight — three components stack together. First, the metal value = today's gold rate for the chosen purity × the weight in grams. For example, 10 grams of 22K gold at ₹13,695 per gram works out to ₹1,36,953. Second, the making charge, the jeweller's cost for crafting the piece, is added as a percentage of the metal value (typically 8–25%) or a flat rate per gram. Third, 3% GST is applied on the sum of the metal value and making charges. The calculator above does all three steps instantly so you can see exactly where your money goes.
Knowing this breakdown is the single best way to avoid overpaying. The gold rate itself is fixed for the day and non-negotiable, but making charges vary widely between shops and are very negotiable — especially on plain gold and during festival offers. Before you buy, calculate the fair price here, then compare it with the jeweller's bill line by line: metal value, making charge, and GST should all be shown separately on a proper invoice.
Example calculation
| Component | How it's worked out |
|---|---|
| Metal value | Rate × weight (e.g. ₹13,695 × 10g = ₹1,36,953) |
| Making charges | Metal value × making % (e.g. 10%) |
| GST | 3% of (metal value + making) |
| Total payable | Metal + making + GST |

Gold Rate Calculator — FAQ
How do I calculate the price of 10 grams of gold?
Multiply today's rate for your purity by 10, then add making charges and 3% GST. For 22K today, 10g of metal is ₹1,36,953 before making and GST.
Does the calculator include GST?
Yes — it adds 3% GST on the metal value plus making charges, exactly as an Indian jeweller's bill does.
Are making charges the same everywhere?
No. They vary by jeweller, design and region, from about 8% to 25%. Always ask for them separately and negotiate.
Is the gold rate negotiable?
The metal rate for the day is fixed; making charges and, at times, small discounts are where you can negotiate.
